The challenges facing the global agriculture sector are well documented and complex. Modern farming is no longer just concerned with feeding mouths. On a finite supply of agricultural land, traditional food crops now compete for space with biofuels, biomedicines and livestock. The pressures placed on existing resources have led to serious shortages in the global food supply and a serious spike in the price of basic staples. In the Middle East region alone, domestic production of crops and livestock amounts to less than half of what it consumes. Clearly, new thinking is required to address the demands placed on global agriculture now and well into the future.
AgriCap is a fund conceived with a single goal in mind; to support the visionary projects that will ease the difficulties faced in world farming. Solutions will come in many forms whether it be advanced agricultural technologies, new crop strains that can flourish in extreme weather conditions or advanced irrigation technologies. With three core components focusing on food production, Islamic investment banking and agri-technology, AgriCap will offer the financial instruments and industry experience necessary to support visionary projects across the agricultural spectrum.
